Lange Skinfold Caliper with Calibration Block and Case, 2005 Model, New

Genuine Lange skinfold caliper, made by Beta Technology of Santa Cruz, California, for measuring skinfold thickness in body composition testing. The dial reads 0 to 60 mm in 1 mm steps, and a metal spring keeps the jaw pressure constant across the range. The published specification for the Lange caliper puts that pressure at about 10 g per square mm on jaw faces of about 30 square mm, and the jaw tips pivot so they stay parallel on the skinfold.

It comes in its original hard case with a 5 step calibration block (to confirm that the dial reading remains accurate, which is already confirmed) and the printed operator's manual. The manual covers the four site method (triceps, biceps, subscapular and suprailiac), taking three readings at each site and averaging them. It prints tables that turn the sum of the skinfolds into a body fat percentage, by age and sex for adults, with a two site version (triceps and subscapular) for youth.

This is an original 2005 model, never used and in new condition, not current production.
